Striped Bass Albacore nantucket Fishing report

Dear Fishermen and Friends,
Holy Albies…
It’s Labor Day weekend so there is no excuse to not come to the Island this weekend if your not here. If you are here, make sure to take time to go fishing, because the False Albacore are here and the fishing is just ridiculous right now.  Seriously- the stories we are hearing in the shop and experiencing on the water are awesome.
Our season this year can be defined by Ebbs and Flows. It seems that our fishery has been hot one week and dead the next.  So when it is hot- take advantage, because we have never seen albies so good so early.  It feels like mid to end of September and we are just getting going. So believe us when we say- go wet a line!!!
From the beach, James Hatton and a friend caught 19 Albies and a Bonita on wednesday- crazy right?  Others had double digits and most people who put time in are catching 3-4 fish from the beach.  Jeremy even hooked and fought an Albie for 1/2 an hour on 4 lb test- ridiculous right!  From the beach- Great Point is the spot.  If you can’t get up there, head to Hoike’s Hollow or Quidnet on the east side.  Fish Metals or Salt Cods Hybrid soft bait.  This lure on two occasions out fished the deadly dicks 3 to 1- wowzer…
From the boat- the west (falling) tide has been better.  The eastern rips (pochick) have been loaded with albies as has Great Point.  If you’re in a smaller boat- these fish are busting on the west jetty, in Madaket harbor, and in the chord of the bay.  Make sure to be patient, wait for these fish to break water and put it right in the mix.
Bonita made a resurgence this week, with lots of reports of fish from the beach and the bonita bar becoming consistent again.  We’ve heard of several people catching double digit fish on the east (rising tide) and these fish are not necessarily just at the bar.
Bluefish are still plentiful, but smaller these days- which means they are perfect easting size.  They have finally found their way to the point with some consistency.  Bass are very, very spotty, but can be found if you are focused on it. Most people who’ve been bass fishing, have been doing so to try for the Grand Slam- Blues, Bass, Bonita and Albie. This is the week to do it…
Go enjoy!
