Nantucket Fly Fishing Guides

Dear Fishermen and Friends,
It’s an awesome time of year on Nantucket when all 4 major species can be caught when targeted. This is all just in time for the most fun tournament of the year,  the Nantucket Inshore Classic. For the next 5 weeks, our anglers will compete for the largest fish in multiple divisions for great prizes and bragging rights into the winter.  The best part is all of the entrance fees go to support the Angler’s Club Scholarship fund.  If you are on island, stop by the Anglers club to sign up. It is an awesome tournament.  http://nantucketanglersclub.com/tournaments/inshore-classic/
The albie bite has slowed down from it’s frantic pace, but I would still say it is fishing better than we are used to at this point in September.  From the beach these fish are showing up at a great pace on the east side of the Island.  These fish come up and down the beach in waves so be patient. Great Point continues to be the hot spot, but if you just have a lunch hour to kill, Hoickes Hollow or Crows nest continue to very productive.  Use metals, epoxies or a weighted soft bait like the salt cod for your best results.  From the boat, the west tide is fishing best at the point.  On the east tide, these fish push off a bit form the point and sit around the corner.  We are also finding albies still in the rips and on the bar.
Speaking of the Bar- bonita are still their for the picking.  The results aren’t hot and heavy, but it’s worth your time to fish it.  Further west, bass are sliding back into the edges and albacore can be targeted on the top water south of Muskeget.  The hooter has not been very productive in the past week.
Bass are popping up sporadically, but still the best is to target them in the evening.  When the winds calm down, Tom Nevers is holding fish, as well a certain drop offs on the east side of the Island.
Our bluefishing is the the biggest mystery right now. Perhaps Great point is the best. This is hte time of year where we have a mixture of big, big fish and smaller taylor blues, but right now there are not a ton of fish. I would target the east side of the Island after spending time at the rip at Great Point.
Oh, and to add to the excitement, a few Spanish Mackeral have been caught from the beach at Great Point.
Lastly- we have all of the scallop gear you’ll need this season, rakes, baskets, waders etc… so please stop by before October 1st to get outfitted.
Go enjoy!
