Nantucket Albies have arrived, book a charter!

Dear Fishermen and Friends,
Last week we told you that Jeremy suspected that Albies would be here within a few days based on how geese are flying- well he was right! (I cannot believe I just wrote that sentence)

Albies are here and in our eastern rips.  The numbers are actually very strong. The highlight was Captain Carl catching 10 Albies yesterday.  The fish are also on the beach as well. Mike O’Neill, who might work the waters off Great Point harder than anyone, caught what we believe to be the first Albie from the beach.  We are a full week early on these fish and with the amount of bait here- they should be here for a while.
In the rips we target these fish with smaller swimmers- yo-zuri’s. When they pop up in schools- have your metals ready.  From the surf, target these fish with bigger metals.  We have a big stock of deadly’s and even a few new colors…
Bonita are not behaving these days… Perhaps it is because there is soooo much bait. It feels like these fish are spread out from the hooter to the rips.  We’ve caught them all over and they are not concentrated on the bonita bar.  The bar is still the best spot, but it is not the only spot.  Unfortunately, it is not as predictable as it was a few weeks ago. Saying this, Capt Hal caught 5 fish in 30 minutes the other day…
This is the time of year where you can catch all 4 major inshore species in a day, a grand slam.  So if you want to try to accomplish what most Anglers on Nantucket have never done- this is the time to do it… Your best bet for Bass is still of the east side at night.  The rips are holding some fish though and the western edges continue to produce some smaller fish.
Go enjoy this change in our fishery- this certainly feels like September- maybe our favorite time on the water!!!  Oh and when Jer gives you advice in the shop- don’t ignore it like I usually do- because he is probably right….
Have fun!
