Sounds odd to be promoting this, but Mackerel fishing off the Eastern beaches right now is incredible.  Use a light rod you have a metal with trebles ie..deadly dick or a Hopkins and you will have an incredible  experience.  Just last night Nat and Corey caught a dozen of these 10 inch fish.  Reel slowly and deliberately and ideally fish with braid so you can feel everything.  Go have some fun, it is what makes this time of year so much fun!
