Fishing Report:

Congratulations to those who have survived another Nantucket Summer and are still on island to reap the rewards! The Fall is here! While we are still a few days away from the official date, the weather feels like Fall, the people are gone, and all sorts of exotic species are here! The story of the week is no doubt about the speedsters, both Bonito and False Albacore. False Albies have been caught consistently now off the beach at Great Point using a variety of metals, most specifically Deadly Dicks and Marias. While most seem to be heading out early in the morning, Fish have been caught all day long.

In regards to Bonito, the bar is open and ready for business. Those with boats, get out there on the East Tide. The fish are still targeting Yozuri’s as well as other swimming lures. There are some albies mixed in at the bar, but I would recommend if you are a boat guy to head to the point and fish the beginning of the secondary edge of Great Point Rip (The Western edge.)

The Albies will also likely be on both sides of galls as well. Many boat fishermen will play a run and gun game. I am a firm believer in patience, patience, patience, and blind casting.   But I beg of you to give the beach fishermen their space. Stay at least three casts away from them. For your sake and theirs, some have been known to retaliate!

As for Bass, they are being caught at night time and down deep. Wire fishermen are producing in the harbor and at Sankaty and Beach Fishermen are starting to catch consistently all around the island, specifically on the Eastern Shore.

Lastly, as we always say, GET INVOLVED! The inshore classic is going on at the Anglers Club and is a wonderful tournament with numerous opportunities to win. Go see Bonnie at the Club or come into the shop for more details.

Tight Lines,

Capt. Corey Gammill
