June 14th Nantucket Fishing Report Striped bass Bluefish
This is the June 14th Nantucket Fishing Report.
This week has been a battle of the winds and cooling spring like weather- it sure feels like September… But the Striped Bass know it’s June, they may not know it’s mid-june but we are getting closer. I say this, because mid-June typically marks the pinnacle of inshore striped bass fishing, and it feels like we are still ramping up.
This week we’ve heard of a couple of 20lb stripers caught in our in-shore waters and a report of 40+ inch Striped Bass off of Nantucket’s south shore! We’ve also heard of anglers catching 10+ fish (not 20 lb’s)… In another weeks time, we hope to have a combination of those numbers. The bait is here to support that hope. We have Herring and squid as well as a bunch of other bait fish. We have a ton of squid as witnessed by all of the squid boats off of the south shore of nantucket.
This past week, anglers reported Stripers being caught from multiple spots around the entire island. If you are targeting bass this weekend, Stripers have been prevalent in the harbor and off the north shore, eel point and smith point. Early morning tides and evening slacks have produced the most success. Use soft baits and mid-level swimmers. The south shore of the island is productive at times, but continues to be spotty. Success has come to those however, who have put their time in. Anglers are not coming home skunked but it many times means hours of fishing for one fish.
Bluefish have been reported on the north shore and the boats venturing to the eastern rips have be reporting cold 55-degree water with not a tremendous amount of life. One would expect he rips to be full of fish. We are actually seeing more blues west of nantucket than east of nantucket now, but expect this to change any day.
We expect this week to be very productive and encourage you to be a part of it. Enjoy the weekend, go wet a line and let us know how it goes!
